Having survived the plane crash, Ace finds a gizmo that messed up the controls. Sabotage! But who?

Rocky guesses it's him. "Some people ain't exactly happy with what happened at my last fight." Rocked was defending his boxing crown against Sweet Lou Jefferson, an overnight sensation. Turns out he had help getting to the top. As he climbed into the ring, Rocky couldn't see straight. The mob doped his water! Rocky takes a beating. His corner man says to throw in the towel: "Don't do it, Rocky. You're being crazy!" Rocky figures, "He was probably right. But I had climbed my way to the crown, and I wasn't about to lose it to a crooked fight!" Even the ref tries to stop the fight by declaring a TKO. Rocky tells him, "You try it and you'll go down before Jefferson does!" Rocky closes his eyes and uses his ears - and knocks Jefferson out of the ring. After the fight, Rocky notes, "It just goes to show that the good guys win!" Red believes it: he's dealt with enough gamblers not to trust 'em.

The guys agree to go after the gamblers. Prof notes they must keep the fact they're alive a secret. Rocky asks, "But how do we get off this mountain?" Red, "Picky picky picky!"

The Daily Planet reports Rocky's plane has crashed, and he's feared dead along with three others. The mob gloats - until the Rocky Davis and friends break in the door. "It can't be Davis! It must be his ghost!"

Rocky grabs the chief mobster to pound him, but Prof grabs his arm. "We have no proof these are the men we're after. If you hit him, hurt him, you'll be the one they toss in jail!" Rocky reluctantly agrees to a "little discussion." But the goons want to show who's in charge. Prof laments, "So much for a civilized solution!" But Rocky stands by while Ace and Red pound the bad guys for him. Rocky tells Red, "remind me to show you how to box."

The chief mobster pulls a gun. A bullet hits Roc ky square in the belly. The guys are astonished: "you sure aren't Superman!" Nope, it hit his belt buckle. Rocky jokes, "I'm beginning to think I lead a charmed life."

One catch. The mobster didn't sabotage the plane. What now? "Back to square one."

The mystery continues in Adventure 495!

Comment

Though short and cramped, this is a neat adventure. After the occult series and the too-serious revival, it's just plain fun to see the Challs working together almost without realizing it. Considering these are four loners, they take to teamwork as if they've longed for it forever!
