Challenger Jets and Other Wings

Other Wings

Over time, the Challengers have used about every type of flying vehicle, from prop planes to helicopters to jets to jetpacks. Here are some examples.

On one occasion the Challs flew a prop plane into Siberia. (LDCU 80-page Giant 2). A slow and low-flying plane could hedgehop to avoid radar - since they were violating Soviet air space and in danger of being shot down.

In early adventures the Challs often flew a goofy red helicopter. Grunts in Viet Nam nicknamed this model "The Flying Banana". (COTU 17)

The Challs pilot a small bubble copter while scouting in the mountains. They're working for a mining company at the time, so it might be a company vehicle. (COTU 45.)

Later the Challs flew a sleek jet helicopter. (Secret Origins 12)

Note the jet intakes on top and the hourglass painted on the nose. This model is, we believe, a Vietnam-era Sikorsky HH53 Super Jolly Green Giant.

The Challengers pilot a rotating wing helicopter into Metropolis on one mission (the non-canon Showcase 100). This craft is so stable the guys jump through a window into the Daily Planet office to meet Lois Lane.

While on a secret mission for the government to stop a "gravity bomb" (World's Finest 267), the Challs used a low-key jet similar to Challenger 1 painted a nondescript silver.

The Challs worked with Superman and Batman on this adventure.

The Challs returned to the public eye in a reverse-gull wing jet of Ace's own design. (COTU 81)

With four jets engines and such a short fuselage, it must be a bitch to steer.

The last known Challenger jet looks like a flying bus (Secret Origins 12). Or perhaps a Space Shuttle. Is it a coincidence one shuttle was named Challenger?

Note the "C" superimposed on the hourglass logo near the back.

Ace can take off from a parking lot when he's in a hurry!
