Challenger Jets and Other Wings

Wild Wings and One-Shot Wonders

Ace once used an"expendable old two-seater" to raid on an island. He trimmed the controls so the plane will run out of gas and crash at sea, then bailed out.

This thorough thinking-out of problems is typical of Challenger stories. Compare the Blackhawks, who were forever setting their jets to "auto-land" and then bailing out with parachutes. Auto-land?

Ace's most radical design is seen only once. (New Frontier 5). It appears to be two flying saucers joined and given wings. Wonder if the flying saucer pods are meant to detach? This plane is identified by Ace as "Challenger 5". It has radar masking and VTOL jets.

Note this jet is gold with purple accents.

Another one-shot is another hovercraft, is our guess. Do the pods detach? And what do the two different cannons shoot?

The design reminds of Reed Richards' FantastiCar, the former "flying bathtub". It's a true hovercraft with one or two jet-fans pointing downwards amidships.

The Challs swoop down on the remains of Challengerville in an aircar or jetsled (COTU V2 1).

It's a true flying vehicle, because they eventually run it into the side of a mountain.

Early on, Ace built a jetpack as part of the Challs' "super powers" phase (COTU 49).

Ace uses it a few times. Strange, considering it's so handy.

And once - just once - Red straps on a more advanced jetpack and walks on air (COTU 82).
